Havoc

Out April 14, 2026

With “Havoc,” alt-pop electronic duo BRDN traverses the quiet turbulence that comes with letting go — when something ends, but its echo still trembles through memory. The track unfolds like a lucid dream, a place where grief and growth coexist, where even light seems to cast itself without a shadow.

Emerging from the same introspective universe as their previous single “Unparalleled,” “Havoc” deepens BRDN’s exploration of impermanence and transformation. Inspired partly by Murakami’s “Kafka on the Shore” and the idea of living without a shadow as a metaphor for rediscovery, the song examines what it means to release something that shaped you — not in bitterness, but in reverence. The process is tragic and hopeful in equal measure: the cost of becoming lighter is loss itself.

Musically, “Havoc” forms an intricate merger of melancholy, bass, and poetry. The production balances between synthetic clarity and organic elements  — bright, modern synths collide with a pulsing beat, while organic elements like recorded congas and cymbal textures (recorded at Interface2 studios) breathe warmth into a digital landscape. The resulting atmosphere feels spacey, fleeting, and urgent, as if the music itself were dissolving while trying to be remembered.

The vocals of Rick Pines and Sofia Cavazzoni embody dual perspectives — present and past, acceptance and longing. Their voices interlace and drift apart like two versions of the same soul. Sofia’s delivery of Giorgio Caproni’s timeless poem Ah Giovinezza threads the piece together: read in two movements, it divides “Havoc” into two emotional halves — remembrance and release.

Meanwhile, Pines’s recurring refrain “only a whisper” becomes the song’s axis: a soft acknowledgment that what remains is not absence, but resonance.

The backing vocals are purposefully layered and encase the whole production in a cloudy, dreamlike, state.

Influenced by acts like HVOB, The Acid, Moderat, and Yeah But No, BRDN carve out their own form of existential electronic pop — one that feeds the mind as equally as the body.  “Havoc” is danceable introspection: a deep breath taken between ruin and renewal.

As the second single from their forthcoming EP “Maybe in Another Life,” “Havoc” continues BRDN’s reflective arc, exploring connections that could never be — yet still echo across timelines.

Artist bio

In their blend of alt pop and electronica, indie duo BRDN (pronounced burden), combine powerful synth-structures and dreamy guitars with soft vocal sequences and driving beats. Superimposed vocals in different vocal colours lay over the music like a broken yet mesmerizing veil. Woven soundscapes take the listener to the dark side of introspection: self-doubt and the golden hunt for a purpose melt into musical fever dreams with room for interpretation.

Lyrics

Moments shared
Rill of gold
Keep some safe
To mend the flaws

You were my bandage
You are my wound

A part of my shadow
Is leaving with you

I’m only a whisper
In your mind
Only a havoc
Echo in time

Only a whisper
Out of sight
Only a havoc
Painting undone

Ah, giovinezza,
come fu fragile il vento,
fra i rami, della tua voce.
Le corse, le sassaiole
a picco sulla specchiera
in frantumi dell’acqua – le bocche
trafelate, le risse
per amore, i boschivi
sguardi quasi marini
lampeggianti fra il grano
già biondo

I’m only a whisper
In your mind
Only a havoc
Echo in time

Only a whisper
Out of sight
Only a whisper
Only a whisper

Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper
Only a whisper

Oh, altezza
mai più raggiunta dal fuoco
del cuore. Ti penso
col mio linguaggio di allora,
ma a freddo, lo sento dal suono
– sul marmo – di moneta falsa.
Oh stanchezza, stanchezza
