BRDN RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE “NOTHING LIKE THE SUN,” OUT AUGUST 25
Alt-pop duo’s first standalone single since EP “Maybe in Another Life” builds a warm, analogue-driven world around a sharper story — acceptance, power, and modern dating as a hunt — out August 25
BRDN, the alt-pop / indie electronic duo of Rick Pines and Sofia Cavazzoni, return with “Nothing Like the Sun,” a standalone single arriving August 25 — their first new release since this June’s EP Maybe in Another Life. The song narrows its focus to a single story, but it’s still very much a world of its own: a synthpop track built on a modern trap beat, layered synth textures, dual vocals, and a rap verse that unravels into a hooky, mesmerizing chorus loop.
The title is a nod to Shakespeare — borrowed, not built on — and the song goes somewhere entirely its own from there. “Nothing Like the Sun” casts modern dating as a kind of pursuit, tracing the moment attraction tips into something closer to conquest: one side circling, the other slowly giving in to a change they swore they’d resist. Lines like “your final trophy, the huntress in prime” and “part of the pack now, no longer denied” capture that shift from person to prize — and what’s left once the chase is over and you stop resisting it.
“‘Nothing Like the Sun’ is about how easily modern dating can turn you into something you don’t recognize — being chased, being claimed, being someone’s trophy instead of their person,” says Rick Pines. [Placeholder — edit or replace before sending]
Rick Pines takes the lead on the track’s rap verses, with Sofy adding ad-libs throughout; Sofy carries the chorus with Rick on backing vocals, the two joining together on the final refrain. Produced and mixed at Interface2 Studios, the track leans into dense synth structures built with a warmer, more organic analogue character — a departure from the EP’s approach, layered over a hybrid live/programmed trap-informed beat.
“Nothing Like the Sun” follows Maybe in Another Life, BRDN’s five-track EP released June 23, which included singles “Havoc,” “Unparalleled,” and “Toque, Tortura” alongside “You Learned From The Best” and “Ink.” The new single marks BRDN’s first standalone release since the EP and continues the duo’s push toward denser, more cinematic songwriting.
“Nothing Like the Sun” releases August 25, 2026, on all major streaming platforms.
Artist bio
In their blend of alt pop and electronica, indie duo BRDN (pronounced burden), combine powerful synth-structures and dreamy guitars with soft vocal sequences and driving beats. Superimposed vocals in different vocal colours lay over the music like a broken yet mesmerizing veil. Woven soundscapes take the listener to the dark side of introspection: self-doubt and the golden hunt for a purpose melt into musical fever dreams with room for interpretation.
Lyrics
Arms in arms
As we slowly succumb
To the change we
Tried to deny
We’ve been broken
Into so many parts
Walk away and leave them scattered
A tale as old
As time itself
My skin on your racks
The hunter turned prey
Your thirst
Isn’t clenched, still
Make me crawl
Back for more
Caught you hiss
Under a full moon
Your cover is blown
Arms in arms
As we slowly succumb
To the change we
Tried to deny
We’ve been broken
Into so many parts
Walk away and leave them scattered
Arms in arms
As we slowly succumb
To the change we
Tried to deny
We´ve been broken
Into so many parts
Walk away and leave them scattered
Crooked smile, mark of the witch
Spells have my mind turn dirty
Numbers in gold, reading 130
Been to hell and back twice
Three times the charm
My demons they try to come at me
But I slept through the alarm
The fever, the wishes
I hid at the bottom
They bubble straight out me
With no way to stop them
I knew you would come for my hide,
Rip it straight from me and
Carry it back to your pride
Go ahead tell them you won it, fair fight
Part of the pack now, no longer denied
JUST A WITHERED SCULPTURE
IN A SAVAGE CULTURE
A part of my beckoning burns in your iris
Your ivory tower so safe when the tide hits
Told me about it for hundreds of times
Your final trophy, the huntress in prime
When you decided that nothing is sacred,
Plus you already claimed it,
Ya, you already claimed it
JUST A WITHERED SCULPTURE
You already claimed it
IN A SAVAGE CULTURE
Arms in arms
As we slowly succumb
To the change we
Tried to deny
We’ve been broken
Into so many parts
Walk away and leave them scattered
Arms in arms
As we slowly succumb
To the change we
Tried to deny
We’ve been broken
Into so many parts
Walk away and leave them scattered
