BRDN Return With “Toque, Tortura,” a Song That Makes Tenderness Feel Like a Threat
The indie electronica duo’s third single from the upcoming EP Maybe in Another Life arrives May 19
Berlin — Indie electronica duo BRDN today announce the release of their new single “Toque, Tortura,” out May 19. The track is the third offering from their forthcoming EP Maybe in Another Life and marks another striking step forward for a duo building one of the most quietly distinctive voices in contemporary electronic music.
Following the alt-pop/indietronica shimmer of debut single “Unparalleled” and the mystical, melancholic depths of “Havoc” — a track steeped in electronica and melodic techno — “Toque, Tortura” weaves together elements of indietronica, left-field pop, and a pulsating reggaeton undercurrent that emerges with visceral force towards its finale.
About the Song
Defying traditional song structure, “Toque, Tortura” captivates through an ever-growing build-up and layered instrumentation that rewards repeated listening. The production centres on carefully chosen synth leads, arpeggios and pads floating above a commanding low end — a hallmark of BRDN’s sound. The track’s heartbeat shifts beneath the surface: a shy drum machine opens the song with restraint, gradually giving way to full acoustic drums before erupting into a frenzy of reggaeton-esque polyrhythms, with real recorded congas woven into the final version to ground its urgency in something human and physical.
Vocally, the song places vocalist Rick Pines at its centre, his voice moving through tension and resignation until it unravels into something close to confession — a raw, pleading address to the listener. Sofia Cavazzoni, the other half of the duo, enters at key passages, not as counterpoint but as presence, her voice forming an intimate, shifting dance with his before retreating into shadow. By the finale, she returns as something sharper: a warning, repeated like a mantra, urgent and inevitable.
Lyrically and thematically, the song occupies a space between farewell letter and caution. It asks whether emotions can hold meaning when they go unseen — “Estas solo son lágrimas / Si nadie las ver / Existen siquiera” (“These are just tears / If no one sees them / Do they even exist”) — and explores the ache of withdrawing from connection not out of indifference, but out of a deep, quiet protectiveness toward another. The touch that should be a comfort becomes instead a kind of torment for the one who feels unworthy of receiving it. Pines and Cavazzoni describe the song as simultaneously a slow-burn warning and a farewell — a meditation on sacrifice, self-doubt, and the strange tenderness of pushing someone away to keep them whole.
The track draws on an eclectic constellation of influences including Rosalía (particularly her Motomami era), FKA twigs, Mansionair, James Blake, SOHN, and Sega Bodega — artists who share a fearlessness in fusing electronic architecture with raw emotional intimacy.
“There is something unbearable about being touched when you don’t feel you deserve it. Toque, Tortura is about that unbearable thing — and about protecting someone from the wreckage of you.”

Artist bio
In their blend of alt pop and electronica, indie duo BRDN (pronounced burden), combine powerful synth-structures and dreamy guitars with soft vocal sequences and driving beats. Superimposed vocals in different vocal colours lay over the music like a broken yet mesmerizing veil. Woven soundscapes take the listener to the dark side of introspection: self-doubt and the golden hunt for a purpose melt into musical fever dreams with room for interpretation.
Lyrics
The decision is made
But my body is frail
I’m just a puppet
You’re prolonging the pain
In your own gentle way
Right at the limit
You haven’t seen
The other me
A heaviness
That you can’t heal
Your blissful strokes
Are wasted on a sinner’s skin
This is not what I had planned
Now you’re eating up my scent
As I melt under your hand
Disassembled
Can I make you understand
No there’s no heart left to mend
No those rules aren’t to be bend
Skin on fire
But I’m not worth the thought
Don’t waste your touch on me
Cause I’m already gone
Surround yourself with ghosts
And you might freeze
Estas solo son lágrimas
Si nadie las ver
Existen siquiera
Existo siquiera
Por favor olvida que
Yo existí
Mi piel una prisión
Tu toque, tortura
(Your touch, on me)
Ya un fantasma
(Dark clouds, you can’t see)Historia ardiente
(Push you away, from me)
Tu toque, relajante
(To save you, from the truth they carry)
Tu toque, tortura
(Your touch, on me)
Por favor olvida que
(Dark clouds, you can’t see)
Yo existí
(Push you away, from me)
Por favor olvida que
(To save you, from the truth they carry)
